Monopoly Simulation Game: My Summer Project

After finishing my first year of college, I was super motivated to keep making cool stuff. During my summer vacation, I worked on two projects: a Unity app and a Java game.

The Java game was inspired by a game I used to play all the time on spele.nl called CityInc. I loved the original game, so I decided to make my own version. It was fun figuring out how to recreate it while adding some of my own ideas along the way.

One of the wildest parts of the project was working with absolutely massive numbers, like nonillions (yeah, that’s a 1 followed by 30 zeros!). Handling those kinds of numbers was a challenge, but it pushed me to learn how to manage big calculations without crashing the game.

Another cool thing I added was a file system for saving progress. Players could save and load their game, which made it feel more complete and polished. It was my first time implementing something like that, and it taught me a lot about how games store data.

Even though it’s a simple game, making it was a great way to experiment and improve my skills. Diving into a project like this was a fun way to spend the summer and learn by doing.
